Embracing the Open Road: My Experience with an MR2 Spyder Green Hardtop

As I look back on my time with my beloved MR2 Spyder, I am reminded of how it all started – with a initial reluctance towards convertibles. However, after experiencing the thrill of driving with the top down, I became hooked and have since planned many more open-road adventures in the years to come.

In fact, I went so far as to design a custom cage and tonneau cover specifically designed to complement the sleek lines of my green hardtop MR2 Spyder. While some might argue that convertibles are all about the top-down experience, for me, it's about the versatility and practicality that comes with having a removable hardtop.

Don't get me wrong – I've had my fair share of fun driving around with the soft top down on sunny days. But, let's be real, sometimes you just want to enjoy the wind in your hair without worrying about security concerns or awkwardly parked cars. And that's where my trusty green hardtop MR2 Spyder comes in.

I've had my fair share of experiences removing and replacing the hardtop by myself – a task that's surprisingly easy, thanks to its lightweight design. But I digress. What I want to emphasize is how much I appreciate having this option available.

For those who are considering purchasing an MR2 Spyder with a hardtop conversion, be prepared for a hefty price tag. New hardtops can cost upwards of 2,000 dollars, which is roughly the same price as purchasing one from JapanParts. And used ones? Well, you might find yourself paying close to $1,000, factoring in freight and reconditioning costs.

In my case, I was fortunate enough to be one of the first people in the US to receive a factory-installed hardtop for my MR2 Spyder. It was love at first sight – or should I say, love at first drive? Having had this experience, I can confidently attest that there's no going back once you've experienced the freedom and practicality that comes with owning an MR2 Spyder green hardtop.

So, what about a whole cargo container full of hardtops? Now that would be a dream come true! But for now, I'm content with my trusty green companion by my side, ready to take on whatever adventures come our way.
